Bayburt is one of the smallest cities in Turkey in terms of not only surface area but also population. It is located in Coruh valley facing south of the eastern black sea range. There has not any airport in Bayburt, so only highway are used  for transportaion. Bayburt is bordered to the North by Trabzon and Rize,to the East by Erzurum, to the South by Erzincan and to the West by Gumushane. Bayburt was also a destination on the ancient silk and spice roads between Trabzon and Iran.
